Kayla Itsines is the most famous female personal trainer in the world.
Creator of BBG, BBG Stronger and now The Bikini Body Motivation and Habits Guide, she has over 8 million Instagram followers, a loyal fan base that spreads halfway around the world—oh, and two SIberian huskies called Ace and Junior.
But, nearing the big day, what do festivities really look like in the Itsines household?
Luckily, last week, whilst promoting her new book—an atlas of healthy recipes, 28-minute workouts and guides for creating the healthiest, happiest version of you—our very own WH editor, Claire Sanderson, hosted Itsines for an audience of all adoring fans.
And you’ll be delighted to hear that Christmas was on the agenda.
The festive forecast is—surprisingly—pretty much exactly the same as yours. Full of fun and festive cheer—and with whatever food they fancy.
CHRISTMAS IN THE ITSINES HOUSEHOLD?
When asked if she treats Christmas as a special occasion, Itsines answer is simple—yes, and so too should you.
She said: “Yes, actually. I’m going to be one of the first trainers in the world to say, on Christmas just eat what you damn well want to eat, because it’s Christmas.”
“Any day that you celebrate, it’s important that you truly celebrate as a family and that you’re able to get together and be brought together by food.”
One thing she advises you steer clear of? Overdoing it. Not a novel notion, but one to bear in mind, nonetheless.
“Don’t go on a month binge eating the food. Prepare for your celebrations. Eat the foods that you should be eating with your family.”
“If you’re Greek or Italian and your Nonna makes you food, the worst thing ever is to say no to that food. Don’t ever say no to that food, because those people aren’t going to be there for forever, and that might be the last time you get to eat that food. And you don’t want to miss out and those people pass away and you say, the last time I saw that person I was like “no I don’t want to eat that because it’s carbs”. Come on, you want to be able to enjoy your food with your family. So eat the food that you want on that day.”
Her favourite bit about Christmas? “Leftovers! I don’t keep it to one day, I’ll eat savoury leftovers for the next week. But if you have Christmas day like mine, you won’t want to eat cakes the next day. You’ll be too full!”
Merry Christmas, from team WH. Here’s to a holiday of happy, healthy, festive fun.
